It's Restaurant Week @ The Knolls !!

The long awaited Restaurant Week is finally here! An opportunity to dine at high class restaurant at a knock-off price. The first stop was The Knolls at Capella. My gal and I were looking forward to this lunch, anticipating a wonderful lunch with a great sea view. Btw, this is our first time to Capella.

Upon reaching The Knolls, we were greeted by the courteous waiters and waitresses. They even go to the extend of commenting on our dressing which surprised us. Top notch service as expected from a six-star hotel like Capella.

A quick look around the restaurant and I realised all the guests were dressed in business attire. We were the only ones in casual attire !

After glancing through the menu, we were kinda disappointed. It was a 3 course lunch, but we were not given a choice for our main. We felt kinda of cheated as we were expecting to sample some of their signature dishes, but the dishes look like any ordinary dishes.

The complimentary bread and butter. The bread was awful ! It was as hard as a rock and i even joked to my gal that i may get bruises if she threw one of them at me ! We tried slicing the bread to spread the butter, but gave up in the end. I resort to peeling off and dipping it in my soup to soften it.

It surely did exercise our jaws quite a bit ! And there wasn't any olive oil with vinegar to go with the bread.

We ordered wine to go long with our lunch for an additional $15 per glass. The white wine: Miguel Torres, Vina Esmeralda, Cataluna, Spain 2010; The red wine: Alta Vista, Classic Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina 2009. Not sure if these were good wine as we know nuts about it, but they were quite smooth and not bitter. Gal is into wine even though she's allergic to it.

Cheers ! (^_^)

The starter, Pumpkin Soup with Chive Cream. I was not a fan of Pumpkin soup but i fell in love with it. Nice thick soup and it goes well with the bread. Gal also love the soup. Not a single drop of soup was left in our bowl !

Our main dish, Thyme Roasted Chicken Breast with Beluga Lentils, Potato and Saffron Ragout. The chicken breast was carefully mould into shapes of a chicken wing. It was actually quite tender, but it was quite tasteless. The sauces did not seep into the meat and it was quite dry. The potato at the base was much better than the chicken breast! Gal and I were unsatisfied.

Random shot =p

Lazy bum, sleeping immediately after lunch?? =p

The last course of our lunch, Pineapple Financier with Lemon Ginger Ice cream. It is caramelized pineapple on top of a warm Almond cake. The ice cream is kinda of unique and nice, sweet and sour. Though the dessert did salvage our lunch a bit, but the over all experience was a pretty bad one.

With the bright sun behind my gal, it is hard to capture any shot without risking getting an over-exposed shot. ZzZzZz.... Maybe they should consider having a curtain?

After our lunch, gal gave her comment on the restaurant week website and we found out that we were not the only one that were disappointed with the dinning experience. Top notch service with nice ambience, but the food just spoils everything. With the costly price tag, you would expect it to be delicious or unique, yet it was neither. Perhaps the food served for the restaurant week were the few exceptions.

After our lunch, we explored the hotel since we were here. Nice pool area overlooking the sea and with tress surrounding it.

The Bob's Bar with lots of comfy sofa. Seems like a good place for chilling. I suppose the price tags are also "nice" ! =p

Last shot at Capella. After our lunch, brought gal to a nice florist shop to take a look at their hand bouquet for our ROM ceremony. Nearing to our ROM day but yet seems like a lot of details still not finalised. Stressed !!
