More Weddings Shows .....

The last 2 wedding shows of the month. Woke up pretty early and reached the first venue at around 11.30am, The Holiday Inn @ Orchard. My gal and i were among one of the few early couples there, and the ballroom looks empty.

Price wise, this hotel would fit our bill nicely. However, there were pillars present in the ballroom, and the food were not as great compared to what we have tried at other hotels. As there was another wedding show @ Grand Copthorne Hotel, we spent only 45 mins understanding the package and viewing the bridal suite.

The ballroom looks pretty nice,
if not for the pillar ....

is it me or wat, the lighting of the ballroom looks retro ...
or maybe, it looks like a nightclub ? =p

The settings of the second venue, Grand Copthorne hotel, was very different from previous one. It seems that they have put in more effort than Holiday Inn and there were a number of wedding services vendors as compare to Holiday Inn. Toured the Waterfront Ballroom, which has a capacity of 22 - 28 tables. This ballroom has pillars and the deco wasn't really nice. Perhaps this is not the main ballroom, hence it pales in comparison.

Next, we went upstairs to take a look at the main ballroom, Grand Ballroom. The hotel staffs were setting up the ballroom for tonite's dinner, hence were able to see the real deco as well. There is a beautiful garden backdrop. Simple yet nice.

After finding out about various packages and touring the ballroom, it's time to tuck in ! For the past few weeks, this was how we settled our lunch too. Mini buffet lunch at the wedding show venue. =p

The nails services booth ....
where the sales person use my hand as a demo cos my gal's fingernails are too long !!

To recap, here are the list of hotels that we have already covered:
- Meritus Mandarin
- Merriott Hotel
- Sheraton Hotel
- Marina Mandarin
- Holiday Inn
- Grand Copthorne

Guess we have more or less view all the hotels that we have shortlisted. Another hotel on our list, Hyatt Hotel, will be holding a wedding show in May. My gal wish to take a look at the ballroom and package before we come to a decision. It is going to get more and more costly to get marry as time passes.

The Opening of Helix Bridge

Head down to Esplanade after our shopping at Orchard to catch the opening of Helix Bridge. Lots of people. The organiser has also arranged some program for the public. Think we miss the fireworks display earlier on. It was hot and humid, not to mention squeezing through the crowd with sticky people brushing past you. (>_<)

Construction in progress .....

Fiery Performance by the 2 guys

All the Scottish Ladies ....

taking a break while waiting for the bridge to be open to public ...

Strong gal lifting up the heavy ballon =p

Shorty us ....
trying to entertain ourselves again during the "walk"

Aaron Teo ?? Annie Tan ?? or ........ Ah Tiong ?? =p

the structure looks grand compare to Resort World ....
would wish to spend one night in the hotel some day ......

Head back home after walking the Helix Bridge. Bought 2 new covers for our iphones. The pinky cover looks damn sweet ....... =x

Wedding show @ Marina Mandarin

Attended a Wedding Show @ Marina Mandarin today. Both ballrooms and themes were on display. There were 3 available themes to choose from. Of the 2 ballrooms available, the main ballroom, Marina Mandarin Ballroom is nicer and more spacious. However, it require a minimum of 35 tables. The smaller ballroom, Vanda ballroom pales in comparison to the main ballroom. Maybe because of the choice of decoration/themes ? Something seems to be lacking. Met a few of my NTU friends.

There is a 5-course meal for couples to sample their dishes. All the 5 dishes were quite nice, to my surprise, and there's even a lobster cold plate as the starter. Nowadays, it is hard to get lobster cold dish as a starter for the basic package. And though it is managed by The Meritus group, same as Meritus Mandarin, but this hotel is definitely much better.

There is a wedding fashion show, showcase of bridal gowns by White Link and hosted by Nic Shen, followed by attractive lucky draws. The first 3 prizes were 3 days 2 nites package to Korea, Maccau and Krabi respectively. No luck in the lucky draw this time round. One of my friends, Belle actually won the first prize ! Free trip to Korea, so shiok.

The stage in Vanda Ballroom .....
It looks empty ....

Vanda Ballroom, and it looks quite cosy

After the Show, we rush down to Goodwood park hotel as there is also a similar event there, showcasing their ballrooms, bridal suite and themes. Both of us find the Bridal Suite cosy and nicely decorated. So is the ballroom. The perks for this show is quite attractive, as they include free musical performance during the cocktail session and free rental of Porsche on the actual day. It is indeed attractive, but the price is out of our budget.

It's Kim's Birthday !! =p

It's finally Sat. Went to pick my gal up before heading to town for shopping. Along the way, decided to drop by our soon-to-be house. The date of completion was estimated to be around 2nd quarter of 2011, and that's like another year to go.

Feeling a bit sad to be leaving the east side and settling in SK cos east side seems to be a lot more convenient compare to SK. Nevertheless, this appears to be the best choice, given the price and the date of completion at that point of time. when we made the decision. Guess we can't complain much either. The thought of having all the major events coming in next year is stressful, especially when the standard of living in Singapore is pretty high.

Head down to Orchard for our usual shopping before meeting up with my buddies to celebrate Kim's Birthday. Had dinner at Suki Yaki, was busy cooking throughout the session, hence not much photos. Anyway, overall experience was not very good. The food was not worth the price. The only fun thing was the DIY ice-cream session.

Garlic, Butter prawns =p

The DIY ice-cream making session. Finally got a chance to take a break and let them do the job =p Roy seems to be enjoying it the most. There were a variety of ice-cream flavors, indicated by the different colors. But some of them taste weird =s

Look at the Bday Gal's expressions =p

This is the first try by the ice-cream chef, Roy....
Err...... the brown thingy....
it resembles something (>_<)

Wahaha, Ice-Cream force into Kim's mouth !! (^_-)

Ice cream chef at work again ...... But it looks like a big big waffle ......
One Chocolate Waffle pls !! (^o^)

trying to make my ice-cream more appealing and delicious =p

After the dinner, we headed down to Prinsep St for board games @ The Hangout Cafe. Great games, pretty cheap rates and good host by the shop assistants. They joined in for some games and had a entertaining session, lots of laughter throughout. Ended the nite at ard 3am. (^o^) Next time will consider coming back to this cafe again! Great company !
