Dinner @ Tampopo

Watched Prince of Persia today. Having played the game last time, looking forward to this movie, where reviews have been good. Great action pack movie and nice babe as well. The kissing scene always happen in inappropriate situations.

After the movie, walk around Orchard before settling down for dinner at Tampopo. Recent poll conducted by Hungrygowhere showed that Tampopo actually came up top, beating the likes of Ippudo Ramen @ Mandarin Gallery (2nd place) and my favourite Marutama Ramen @ Liang Court.

First look at the menu, it certainly has a wider selection of food compared to most of the ramen restaurant. My gal had a hard time chosing her ramen.

Decided to order 2 sides to go with our ramen. First on the list, cold tofu. The cold tofu was served with nice sauce, not too dilute nor salty. The outer layer of the tofu was quite crispy yet soft inside.

This is one of our favourite sides and a must have dish, Edamane.

I have ordered the promotion, Black Pig Toro BBQ Ramen. As the soup was cooked using pork bone, the porkie smell was quite strong for me. I guess i prefered the chicken based soup? Other than the pokie-ness taste, it was quite salty as well. As for the egg, it was nicely done. Though hard boiled, the yolk is soft. Egg is a muz have to go with ramen.

BBQ Black Pig. Find it a bit tough and dry, compared to the cha siew served @ Marutama, which "melts" in your mouth.

My gal decided on this Hokodate Shio Ramen, Ramen in pork and seafood soup. The soup has a prawny taste, though there is only a tiny shrimp in the soup. The Cha Siew is also quite tough. Gal finds it normal too.

the tiny shrimp in gal's ramen soup .....
looks creepy =p

empty shells of Edamane ... we can have another bowl =p

Maybe we went there with high expectation, or we order the wrong dishes. Both of us were not very satisfied with the dinner. Though it was not bad, but better than Ippudo Ramen and Marutama Ramen? I beg to differ.
