Mum's Birthday Celebrations at Hoshino Coffee

There are a couple of nice restaurant opening at the new Plaza Singapura wing and we decided to celebrate our mum's birthday here. Long queue is always spotted at the café and wondered if it is nice.

My Brother's Hoshino Pot-baked Curry rice!

My brother's skeptical expression when the dish arrived. Taste pretty normal and not as delicious as what he expected. =p

My mum's Hoshino Spaghetti with Eggplant, Bacon, egg and sausage.
Not the usual kind of pasta.

My dad's Carbonara with Yolk and Bacon.
Not a fan of carbonara generally as it taste jelat if served in big portion.

Our Lobster Bisque soup Spaghetti.

The Pescatora Seafood with Tomato sauce spaghetti. This was probably the nicest pasta among all!
Fresh seafood and the tomato sauce is delicious, striking a balance of sweet and sour taste.

Probably the café is more known for its desserts rather than its mains. We gotta try to find out for ourselves. My sis's Fuwa Fuwa, which means fluffy Hoshino Souffle. Not too bad! Just like its name, it was fully and light!

One of the 2 other Souffles that we ordered, Double Pancake Souffle Style. Compared to the rest, this is not as soft as what a soufflé is suppose to be, but it is quite moist. Paired with the honey, it seems to taste pretty much like a pancake rather than a soufflé.

The Vanilla Souffle.
Soft, light and puffy!
Start eating before it starts to collapse! =p

Happy Birthday Mum!!

Xmas Day Brunch Buffet at Parco Caffe

It was a brunch buffet treat from gal at Parco Caffe.

A wide selection of breads were available.

A sausage, potato, asparagus, mushroom and baked potato to kick the buffet session.

We can choose how we want our eggs to be cooked.
Scrambled eggs and poached eggs were our choices.

The salad station with bacons and smoked salmon.

The carving station where salmon, beef and pork knuckle were available. The selections were attractive, but it turned out to be quite disappointing for both of us. The meat were left on the board perhaps for several hours after they were cooked, and they were not kept warm.

As a result, when we had our shares, they were pretty cold and tough. It really puzzled us why the meat were not kept warm.

At least the pastas did managed to save the day.
They have 3 different delicious pastas, which one can re-order.

Last stop, the dessert corner.

Well, looks can be deceiving. The cakes looked delicious, but it turn out to be average as well. It has been a long time since we had a buffet, and we arrived at the same conclusion again. Buffet may have a wide selections of food, but not all the food is delicious. Quality over quantity for us now, guess we would be putting off buffet sessions for quite some time.

A Lazy Saturday

Had a late night yesterday and woke up later than usual. And it was raining, shiok to spend a longer time in bed! As it was quite late, we randomly googled for some café that still serves brunch or all-day breakfast, and that was how we ended up at Selfish Gene cafe, which we have not tried before.

 Self-service corner

Gal's B.O.B, and this was not available on weekdays. 2 slow poached eggs with smoked salmon on multigrain bread.

Looking for a bigger portion of breakfast set, I ended up choosing the Breakfast plate. It consist of scrambled eggs, English pork sausage, honey baked ham, mushroom, tomato confit and toasted brioche.

After our mains, we ordered Lemon tart to share. This was not available on weekdays too. Nice tangy lemon curd tart with burned meringue and candied lemon zest. The tart was much more satisfying than the mains.

As we were near the vicinity of Citylink, we decided to check out Daniel and Jamie's new venture, Cookie for Sid. There was quite a lot of people at the stall, and most of the cookies were cleared out pretty fast.

Waited for some 15 mins for a new batch of Mocha Expresso cookie. Nice cookie, fresh from the oven!

Dinner at Sushi Express!
This is our second visit, and this time round, we cleared 30 plates of sushi!
Well, we are big eaters! =p

Brunch at Chye Seng Huat Hardware

Read about a pretty new café, Chye Seng Huat Hardware which serves pretty good coffees. Other than coffees, they also serves cakes and mains, but the kitchen closes at 5pm. Make no mistake, this is not your usual hardware store.

The "Real" entrance to the café.
Cool design, though it looks more like an entrance to a construction site.

The interior of the café looks cool, and the whole place had the nice aroma of the coffee.

Desserts are meant to have it after the Mains, but we were too hungry. Also, the cakes seemed to be selling fast, so we decided to order the cakes first while we waited for our mains to be served.

We ordered a slice of Pecan Lime Cheesecake and a Banana cake. They are pretty generous with the pecans and it may have overpowered the taste of the lime and cheese. The banana cake was moist and soft, with a spongy feel.

We also ordered coffees to go with our cakes, Cappuccino for gal and Ice Brewed coffee for me. Thick, fragrance cappuccino, it was one of the nicest that we came across so far.

The ice brewed coffee was uniquely stored in a bottle which resembled a cough syrup. One can create your own preference of coffee by adding the milk and syrup. Nice!

My mains, Patrick's Platter, which consist of Pork Rillete, Duck Terrine and Parma ham.

Gal's Ham Omelette with grilled tomato and salads.

Overall, it was a great place for coffee lovers. Do drop by for some coffee if you have not try yet. We would not mind coming back for the coffee.
